Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative featuring divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season are included.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and presented the first table of adventurers who will separate from the main group to undertake their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura), Tyranny (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per the DM, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might seem out of place, but the developments of episode 3 make it clear why these specific adventurers are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and stealing all the enchanted items to auction.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, above the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a individual motive to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the close ally and best friend, wants revenge.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the team access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his deliverance and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally too risky:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The cleric turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This means them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which players will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on next week.
